Our final tool to be highlighted is the 110 Philosophy Situational Analysis and Problem Solving (SAPS) tool.
First, let's recap the topics & tools we have already covered
Situational Analysis and Problem Solving are powerful business tools used to build the routine practice of always learning from your problems. This is how you turn a problem into a challenge AND have your team engage in the challenge. By having your team help in breaking down the business challenge, you teach your team/organization that there is no such thing as a problem, only challenges. This is the first step in engaging your team thereby helping your organization become more adaptable and able to embrace change. When mastered, your team/organization will seek out the challenge (problems) to gain that energy from accomplishing/overcoming a challenge. (That energy is addictive....) And, when you look back at the challenges you and/or your team have faced and overcome, it can be even more uplifting and motivating.
Situational Analysis & Problem Solving help you break down the circumstances of a situation so that it can be managed successfully versus getting stuck or distracted by emotions and drama around the situation. It also enables you to quickly go into problem-solving mode to solve problems based on the things that you can control instead of focusing on the elements that you cannot control.
Follow these steps to use SAPS to problem-solve:
Ask yourself honestly, what is the situation you are facing?
Complete the table below based on your situation.
List the options will you take, and the steps necessary to make the changes that you can control.
What is great about turning this mindset into your everyday go-to, is that you can apply these same strategies to your personal life. We all have challenges (sometimes unexpected) and we all face problems at some point in life. But the choice is ours when it comes to how we handle them.
“You may not control all of the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them” - Maya Angelou
